As the conventions of horror have been mentioned a few times during the blog I thought I would list a couple of the key ones so that it is clear as to what I am refering.
# Dark looks and style - low key lighting
# Isolated settings and desolate landscapes
# Excessive gore
# Sinister undertone and atmosphere of doom
# Good vs Evil (although boundaries sometimes blurred on purpose)
There are more conventions and most will vary with sub genre, (e.g. a vampire horror has it's own set of conventions) but all good horror film play out real life threats on screen embodied by monsters and then close down these fears for the audience.
