Evaluation: Our preliminary task sequence was successful because the editing was continuous and invisible. We also had good lighting which we set up to achieve. We filmed the sequence on a bright corridor and in a middle of a room so the lighting would be at it's best and not be affected by the light outside (natural lighting). We have also added a soundtrack to create suspense but also managed to keep the voice volume at it's best.

The continuous editing did affect some of the clip, when the first character enters the room in the match on action shot, the character's hand is on one side of the door handle, on the second part of the match on action shot, it's on the other side of the door handle.

We would re-film the match on action shot to improve the film.

We have learnt to use match on action shot and also how to continuously edit and to find a good location to film is difficult plus did the best with the cameras and technology we were given i.e. using the tripods for the camera and also using imovie for editing.

We have filmed our preliminary task and have edited it. We used the program imovie to get rid of unnecessary clips and make it a continuous and invisible editing. We also used a soundtrack from the film "the matrix" to set the scene and also cut out unneeded sound and background noise.

BBFC have the task of choosing the age ratings for films. Most horror films are given eighteen age ratings due to excessive gore and violence. Our film will probably come under the same age rating.

The Socio Economic group our film will be aimed at is the C2 and D categories as we feel they are the most likely groups to enjoy horror films. Also Psychographically speaking our target audience are most likely to be mainstream viewers who apreciate the codes and conventions ofered to them by the horror genre.

We have completed the foundation portfolio preliminary task. A storyboard has been drawn of a character walking down a corridor, opening a door, walking through the door and across the room to sit opposite of a second character. The two characters exchange two lines, then the second character runs off.

As the conventions of horror have been mentioned a few times during the blog I thought I would list a couple of the key ones so that it is clear as to what I am refering.

# Dark looks and style - low key lighting
# Isolated settings and desolate landscapes
# Excessive gore
# Sinister undertone and atmosphere of doom
# Good vs Evil (although boundaries sometimes blurred on purpose)

There are more conventions and most will vary with sub genre, (e.g. a vampire horror has it's own set of conventions) but all good horror film play out real life threats on screen embodied by monsters and then close down these fears for the audience.
